Cookies and website analytics
1 Cookies
Summary
In some circumstances, our hosting provider may set cookies that are strictly necessary for the operation of this site. We would need your permission to use any other type of cookie.
1.1 Cookies
According to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), a cookie is "... a small text file that is downloaded onto ‘terminal equipment’ (e.g. a computer or smartphone) when the user accesses a website. It allows the website to recognise that user’s device and store some information about the user’s preferences or past actions," (learn more; external link to the ICO website).
1.2 Our website
Our website (querca-too.com) does not itself create, store or use cookies.
1.3 Our hosting provider
The website is hosted by Cloudflare, which employs HTTP Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) Attack Protection. Cloudflare defines a DDoS attack as "... a malicious attempt to disrupt the normal traffic of a targeted server, service or network by overwhelming the target or its surrounding infrastructure with a flood of Internet traffic" (learn more; external link to Cloudflare website).
In some circumstances, Cloudflare HTTP DDoS Attack Protection may lead to a visitor being asked to complete a 'managed challenge' at an interstitial location before they can proceed to the website (examples here; external link to the Cloudflare website). The cookies associated with managed challenges are as noted below (the descriptions are verbatim from Cloudflare documentation).
Cookie name | Description | Purpose | Duration |
cf_clearance | Clearance cookie stores the proof of challenge passed. It is used to no longer issue a challenge if present. It is required to reach an origin server. | Strictly necessary | 30 mins |
cf_chl_XXXX | This cookie is used to check whether the Cloudflare Edge server supports cookies. It can be deleted if seen. ('XXXX' represents dynamic part.) | Strictly necessary | Dependent on visitor's browser policy |
cf_chl_rc_i; cf_chl_rc_ni; cf_chl_rc_m | These cookies are for internal [Cloudflare] use which allows Cloudflare to identify production issues on clients. | Strictly necessary | 30 mins |
These cookies have the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network. They help with network management and ensure that the content of the website loads quickly and effectively for non-malicious visitors. They are strictly necessary for the operation of the website. We would need your permission to use any other type of cookie.
2 Website analytics
Summary
Personal information is not collected, and client-side state is not used.
Cloudflare provides a 'privacy first' web analytics service. "Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use any client-side state, such as cookies or localStorage, to collect usage metrics. [Cloudflare] also don’t 'fingerprint' individuals via their IP address, User Agent string, or any other data for the purpose of displaying analytics. [Cloudflare's] analytics are non-invasive and respect the privacy of your visitors," (learn more; external link to the Cloudflare website).
